The seventh Game Awards has just finished and the PlayStation exclusive, The Last of Us Part II, takes the big prize.
As a student in film, it was wonderful to see Christopher Nolan announce the winner of the Game of the Year award. Neil Druckmann, the director of The Last of Us Part II, accepted the award for Naughty Dog. The game had received a lot of criticism due to the narrative and still managed to also win Best Narrative, which it well deserved, in this humble writer’s opinion.

Other PlayStation exclusive contenders included, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Ghost of Tsushima. Both of these games had a really good shot at winning the award, but they still managed to grab awards elsewhere. Ghost of Tsushima won Best Art Direction and Final Fantasy VII Remake grabbed Best Role-Playing and Best Score and Music.
Every year I’ve watched The Game Awards and it’s always a special event to watch with friends. Next year’s event will hopefully be very exciting as its the first Game Awards with the next-gen consoles, wonder who could win next year?
