The Game Awards was the building block to announce the release date for Housemarque’s Returnal.

During The Game Awards, the release date for the next big PlayStation exclusive, Returnal, was revealed. The game will be released in early 2021, exclusively on PlayStation 5. This game will not be playable on PlayStation 4. In the gameplay trailer we got to see some of the worlds we’ll get to explore and some of the enemies we’ll get to defeat, and the graphics definitely look amazing on the PlayStation 5.

Returnal is a third-person action title that will have a strong narrative behind it. We will play as Selene, an Astra space scout that has been trapped in an endless loop on a dangerous planet. The game will make use of the many key PlayStation 5 features such as the super-fast SSD, the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback, and the realistic 3D audio. All of these features will heighten the game’s immersion, making you feel like you’re also stuck in this endless loop with Selene.

The studio behind the game, Housemarque, is also celebrating 25 years as a video game studio. They’ve released many recognizable games on PlayStation such as Resogun, Dead Nation, and Alienation.

Returnal is their biggest project to date. The game will hit store shelves on March 19, 2021.
