Initially scheduled for June 4th, The Future of Gaming event was postponed by Sony following large-scale protests in cities across the United States over some real world events. The announcement that the event would be postponed came on the heels of a statement issued by Sony denouncing systemic racism and police violence via their official Twitter account. Sony’s announcement was met with a mixed response from the gaming community on Twitter.
With the event rescheduled, gamers can once again look forward to over an hour of gameplay footage of titles that will be available on the upcoming console. Sony President and CEO Jim Ryan stated in a May 29 post on the PlayStation Blog that the event would feature a “first look at the games you’ll be playing after PS5 launches this holiday.”
That’s why I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday. The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe.
In the post, Ryan goes on to state that similar events are being planned leading up to the launch of the PS5 this holiday season. Whether the initial delay of the “Future of Gaming” event will impact further upcoming events is yet to be seen.
