Square Enix is teasing an announcement related to The World Ends With You.
The teaser site, titled “TIMELIMIT WITHIN 7DAYS” gives very little away, but fans of the 2007 original will instantly recognize the background image, font, and music used all belonging to the series. In fact, the page has a strong resemblance to The World Ends With You countdown posted by Square Enix in 2012. At that time, the end of the countdown revealed that the Nintendo DS original was being ported to iOS systems, something that didn’t go down too well with fans hoping for the announcement of a sequel.

The official Twitter account for Square Enix, 1st Production, tweeted the countdown themselves, lending some credence to the hopes that the timer will reveal a new game in the series.

Eight years later, however, and the series has seen a slight revival with an updated port titled The World Ends With You: Final Remix releasing in 2018 on the Nintendo Switch, and the recent news that an anime adaptation was being made, there is at least some reason to keep our fingers crossed that a new game might be coming or this could end up being a bad case of deja vu.
