Square Enix has found itself in the middle of a battleground as several third-party companies reportedly scramble to purchase the developer.
Coming off the high of Outriders, Square Enix has become a hot commodity to multiple unnamed third-parties seeking to reportedly purchase the massive developer.
The “who” in this story, which was broke by Bloomberg Japan, is still unknown nor is if this purchase solely on its games department or the company as a whole. This story is basically missing such details and fall into a huge speculation pool.
Industry analysts have also given theorists warning that just because purchases are being discussed, that doesn’t mean it’s actually happening and that M&A talk happens all the time in business, per Daniel Ahmed.
Just a note that game companies often have discussions about M&A. Doesn't mean something is actually happening.

Another industry analyst, Dave Gibson, points the blame to bankers trying to “drum up business.” This is doubly so backed up as Square Enix never once looked for buyers and are still in agreements with both Sony and Tencent.
FWIW – Think its bankers trying to drum up business, Stock been under pressure because of failure of Avengers. No doubt it has great IP but already has commercial agreements with Sony and Tencent… https://t.co/IyS7qCKeVp
