Our little Mojang is all grown up. Now they’re Mojang Studios.
With the release of Minecraft Dungeons, it’s become even more increasingly clear that Mojang isn’t the little studio started all the way back in the early days of Minecraft. Now, in 2020 it’s time for them to grow up and get a new name. What do they choose? Well, fans won’t have to get used to too big of a change, they’re going by Mojang Studios.
In a nifty, graphics-heavy video, the Stockholm-based studio revealed its rebranding as well as its brand-new logo made up of what they call “Mojangs.”
“Following Minecraft Earth and Minecraft Dungeons, we’re planning a feature film, preparing an epic live show, and playing with ideas for brand new games.” The voiceover said, going over their accomplishments and future plans. Then fans heard it, they grew up and – in part – due to its studios across the world, decided to go by Mojang Studios.
Besides its new name and the brand-new logo, nothing much has really changed. They’re still deeply invested in the world of Minecraft. They’re still going to be updating the game and giving fans all over the world what they want. Why would they drop such a huge game? All in all, Microsoft has noted the game attracts a staggering 112 million players each month.
Microsoft would rather – as said by Helen Chaing, Microsoft’s head of Minecraft – keep the community happy. “I really don’t think that makes sense for Minecraft, given the community. It’s something that always fractures the community.”

Whatever the plans may be, its current goalpost is the next game in the plethora of franchise entries, Minecraft Dungeons. Dungeons is scheduled to release May 26.
