EA aiming to make Washington Redskins into a generic team in Madden NFL 21 amid their name change.

As the Washington Redskins sheds its name in favor of a new – still unannounced – team name, EA is doing away with the name and logo in Madden NFL 21. Broke by USgamer, the game will be seeing an update to turn the Washington-based team into something more generic until the new name and logo goes public.

“We are pleased to see Washington’s decision to change their team name and visual identity. We are quickly working to update Madden NFL 21 to feature a generic Washington team, while we await final word on the updated team name and logo design.”

EA’s work won’t be perfect, so they warned its players that they’ll still probably see outdated Redskins-related material in the early portions of the game. With that in mind, they’re also seemingly looking to do away with those as time progresses.

This decision to get rid of the name and logo comes after years of pressure to do so as it’s also a slang term for Native Americans. Chief among their sudden change of branding, though, was when FedEx decided to pull its support and advertising until something was done. This led to others following suit and eventually hit enough to cause the owner to pull the name and logo.

MORE FROM GABRIEL: WAS THE XBOX ONE X REALLY DISCONTINUED?

It’s hard to say what they’ll change it to or when Madden NFL 21 will see the update to reintroduce the Washington team in a new light.

Madden NFL 21 launches to both current and next-gen consoles on August 25.
