Fans are hoping to see any sort of confirmation of Far Cry 6 during Ubisoft Forward this July.
Rumors are spiraling about the possibility of Far Cry 6. It’s been over a year since the latest game in the Far Cry franchise, Far Cry New Dawn released and whilst this game faced mixed criticism at launch, it was widely regarded as not being a brand-new stand-alone title. The events of New Dawn followed directly after Far Cry 5, which released in March 2018 and was set 17 years after the ending of Far Cry 5 (which was, in fact, the 12 game in the successful Ubisoft series).
Far Cry New Dawn was a colorful, playful, and fun twist on the gameplay and storyline of their main title, and whilst ambitious, it was far from some of the radical stand-out games such as Far Cry Primal which we have seen in recent years. The Far Cry franchise itself stretches back to 2004 when its first namesake title, Far Cry, was released on Microsoft Windows, published by Ubisoft, but developed by Crytek Studios, a German developer who went on to create the CryEngine software.
Ever since those early days, the game series has enjoyed strong support amongst gaming communities and its first title released on both Xbox 360, PS3, and next-gen consoles, Far Cry 4, was given numerous 5-star reviews at the time of release.
But what next for Ubisoft’s crazy, gun-toting, pipe-dreaming, population-liberating shooter? Well, hope may be on the horizon for Far Cry fans after the rumor mill has started churning ahead of Ubisoft Forward, Ubi’s own digital conference scheduled for July 12. Whilst the internet is buzzing for rumored leaks relating to Far Cry 6 the most solid evidence for possible settings/themes of a future release was Ubisoft’s FC player-base survey which asked players to choose from 15 settings and time periods in which they would like to see the next game set. These ranged widely from the secretive state of North Korea to the jungles and landscapes of South America.
Has Far Cry 6 even been announced?
Whilst there is no confirmation from Ubisoft to whether or not they are currently working on the next Far Cry title, fans have been dissecting information released ahead of the developer’s planned digital conference, Ubisoft Forward. The title graphic advertising the event shows a landscape in the background and whilst many observers have claimed this is likely from the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, others have speculated it could be one of the beautiful vistas we have come to associate with the scenery of prior Far Cry games.

Whatever is revealed on July 12 will be unlikely to please everybody, but looking at the pattern of the game’s last six releases; 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, it’s not out of this world to suggest that we could be hearing details of a Far Cry 6 in the very near future…
