Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 saw its canceled campaign leaked.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 became the first game in the Call of Duty series to be released without a campaign mode. On Sunday, Reddit user u/ForeverDexus uploaded footage from the canceled campaign mode. There was no question they were working on a campaign. A 2018 Kotaku report, described two years of work on the campaign mode had been nixed in favor of the battle royale mode, Blackout. The canceled campaign looks to be similar to Black Ops 4‘s multiplayer experience – mostly because it “was to be centered on an ambitious two-versus-two multiplayer mechanic.”
The now released footage is set in the map Seaside, a featured multiplayer map. While the map and HUD in the posted clip look fairly developed, the low-quality character models suggest it was still in the early stages of development. The short clip shows the main characters being briefed on securing the Aquilis CEO. One notable difference is the five lives the character has, which has never been seen in a COD mission. Treyarch previously denied working on a campaign mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 but later told Eurogamer it did not have time to complete it.

This clip comes as a peek of what could have been a unique campaign experience that strayed away from the traditional solo mode. Call of Duty is expected to make an announcement regarding its next release in the series by the end of May. The upcoming game’s title and developer have not been announced yet.
