Fans are hoping for some mind-blowing Viking gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla during Ubisoft Forward.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla already got fans of the franchise salivating over the thought of piloting a longboat, raiding English villages, partaking in the general pillaging, partying, and pandemonium that comes with being a Viking in the late ninth century.
Since Ubisoft reinvented the already iconic AC franchise as a free-roam open-world RPG experience with the release of Origins back in October 2017 there’ve been constant rumors throughout the fanbase of which historical destinations the developer would explore in future titles.
So, it came as no surprise that when the AAA studio announced Odyssey, many history nerds were overawed at the prospect of being able to openly explore, adventure, and live out their virtual lives in a painstakingly crafted digital model of Ancient Greece. According to Ubisoft’s 2019-20 Quarter 4 sales and earnings report, the epic Greek adventure game saw a 170 percent increase in sales compared to its Ancient Egyptian counterpart released the previous year.
Ubisoft’s ambition to promote Assassin’s Creed to flagship status has been realized in recent years and with digital downloads making up 45 percent of Odyssey’s total sales to date and given the unique impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the gaming industry, it is understandable just how important Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is for the future of this franchise. With leaks suggesting a release date in October 2020, it is unclear so far how this will match up with next-gen en console releases, despite Ubisoft announcing that Valhalla will be released on Xbox Series X and PS5.
We will no doubt learn more about the developer’s plans during their special Ubisoft Forward event scheduled to be streamed worldwide on July 12 as part of their first-ever digital showcase. The official statement from Ubisoft reads:
“With physical gaming shows around the world postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ubisoft will be hosting its first digital conference, called Ubisoft Forward, on July 12. Get ready for an E3-style showcase with plenty of exclusive game news, exciting reveals, and much more.”
We can expect Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to be front and center during this lineup and it is highly likely that a deep dive of gameplay will be given the spotlight too.
But until then players will have to satisfy their blood lust by binge-watching the trailer on repeat and getting stuck into Amazon Prime’s Vikings boxsets. Let’s hope July 12 brings a horde of treasures for every gamer to enjoy.
What do you think? Are you excited to see what Ubisoft Forward is all about? What do you hope it will include?
